This Week: Party Crashers

THURSDAY
Secret Special Guest at Versus/Danceism (Central, Santa Monica) — Danceism always brings the heat for their Thursday parties.  Thursday brings a “secret guest” that I’ve gathered is techno heavyweight D. Ramirez.  Watch out for thumping sounds… RSVP
Kurupt, Muggs and Adam12 at AFEX (The Colony, Hollywood) — Strictly hip-hop classics, with DJ/producer Muggs (Cypress Hill) and Kurupt, westcoast legend.
Waldo vs. Partytime at Dance Right (La Cita, Downtown) — Dance Right is the weekly Thursday night party at La Cita.  Always a good time in a nice intimate venue. RSVP

FRIDAY
Sinden at Control (Avalon, Hollywood) — Sinden is the multi-talented wonky electro artist from the UK best known for his track “Beeper,” with Kid Sister.  He was kind of the pioneer of this style so I bet he slays live. RSVP

SATURDAY
Visionquest, Art Department, and Damian Lazarus at Get Lost LA (Music Box, Hollywood) — This group of techno and tech-house monsters have been leading the way in the deep techno sounds as of late.  I saw Visionquest in Detroit and they threw down! Tickets

SUNDAY
Jamie Jones and Lee Foss at Culprit Sessions (Standard LA, Downtown)  – Jamie Jones makes super deep groovers and has recently taken over Ibiza, and along with Lee Foss as Hot Creations, they helped really push the Culprit Sessions off the ground in 2008. RSVP

Move It, Move It

I was lucky enough to attend some great concerts this past weekend, a celebration of my birthday.  This will provide a brief recap, with highlights.  Image above from Dirty Choons.

FRIDAY: Glitch Mob performed with Rjd2 at the Nokia Theatre Downtown.  My friend Sameer won tickets, I had previously never heard Glitch Mob, but they really tore the place down.  A perfect mix of hip-hop and dubstep sounds, this quartet did a fantastic job of pacing their set and bringing in the heavy sounds when necessary.  No chainsaws required.

SATURDAY: The Mad Decent Block Party was a free event hosted downtown by Diplo’s label and featured a wealth of talent.  The set-up of the event was great but the vibe wasn’t really kickin’ until Nadastrom and (a surprise appearance from) Munchi came to bring the Moombahton heat.  The place went wild, I had never seen such a contrast- everyone was packed like sardines for Major Lazer, but Munchi came with serious firepower, including Heartbreak’s “King Kong” and his remix of Dillon Francis’ “Brazzer’s Theme,” blowing the place apart.  Mad Decent has a lot of events in LA, so stay tuned here to find out about upcoming ones.

That night, Making Shapes threw a warehouse party featuring the talents of Simian Mobile Disco, Woolfy, and (thee) Mike B.  I’ve been to a fair amount of warehouse parties Downtown since moving back to L.A., and this one had of the best vibes.  Lots of space, good-looking people, a pool for swimming, and easy access to the bar.  ALL slammin’ house music too, none of that electro bullsh—….Definitely recommend attending their next party.  Check their Facebook page for more info.

SUNDAY: Sade and John Legend performed an amazing live set at the Staples Center.  One can only imagine what this sounded like, and it was truly an experience.  With a nice lady in tow, you can’t help but get in the mood.  Sade takes you there…
